About
Keith left Orphan in 1983 to form folk rock band Back Street Slide with the wonderful Trish Hathaway on vocals. It was definitely back to his roots, performing songs by the likes of Richard Thompson and Jethro Tull. The band had several drummers during their time together including Mark Stephens, Trevor Foster (ex Flying Hat Band/Albion Dance Band – hear Trev at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCtBjKMO_30 with the Pipe Factory Ceilidh Band), Colin Rote (ex Britain) and Tom Farnell (ex Roy Wood/Fairport Convention – hear Tom at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxlzBKUjGlU with The Raymond Froggatt Band).
A small amount of college/university work followed plus they started the reasonably successful ‘Loonybin Folk Club’ (Camp Hill RFC) in Solihull, West Midlands. However, this was a time when University /College budgets were cut with the result that the gigs that the band should have been playing just didn’t happen. The band had no songwriters and Keith, having become very disillusioned by the music scene in general, left the band sometime around 1986. The remaining members carried on for a little while with fiddle player Nick Martin before the band, sadly, folded.
